About the Art & the Artist
The art of quilling, or paper filigree, has been in existence since the 15th century as a favorite pastime for nuns and monks in the monasteries. It has since enjoyed several resurgences with new styles and techniques, but the original heart of the art remains. Today, quilling has begun to experience yet another resurgence and many artists around the world have developed their own flair to make their creations their own. Kathy Peters has been quilling for nearly 20 years, displaying her art across the country and selling it around the world. Her style has evolved over the years, incorporating her love for watercolor painting in her work. She has enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts over the years, but was strongly drawn to quilling which as been her focus since. Kathy and her husband moved full-time to Southwest Florida in 2020 in the throes of the epidemic, so her showings here have been limited. She comes from the Utica area of Upstate New York where she exhibited and taught classes across New York State, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia and Ohio.
